Main drain for concrete pools — the suction outlet set into the pool floor at its deepest point, cast into the slab and finished flush so nothing protrudes. The anti-vortex grate spreads suction across the whole face of the fitting instead of drawing it through a single opening, which keeps flow steady and prevents a swimmer, or a swimmer's hair, being held against the outlet. Always install a pair on a shared suction line, spaced apart, so that a single blocked drain can never carry the full pump flow. Connect to the pump's suction side in solvent-welded PVC and pressure-test the line before the slab is poured.
