Swimming pool filters from our Egyptian factory: filament-wound sand filters 500mm to 1800mm, 10 to 127 m3/h, with 1.5in and 2in multiport valves.
Filtration rate: the number that decides water clarity
A sand filter is rated by filtration rate — the flow it passes divided by its filter area, expressed in m³/h per m². Across the Waterstar range the maximum rating is consistent at roughly 50 m³/h/m²: the 20-inch T500-20 has 0.2 m² of area and a 10 m³/h maximum, the 30-inch T750-30 has 0.44 m² and 22 m³/h, the 1200 mm WS-1200 has 1.13 m² and 57 m³/h, the 1400 mm WS-1400 has 1.54 m² and 77 m³/h, the 1600 mm WS-1600 has 2.01 m² and 100 m³/h, and the 1800 mm WS-1800 has 2.54 m² and 127 m³/h.
Those are maxima, not targets. Water polish improves as the velocity through the bed drops, so specifying a vessel one size larger than the minimum is the cheapest quality upgrade available on a pool: the same pump then runs at a lower filtration rate, the sand traps finer particles, backwash intervals stretch out and the pressure rise across the bed is slower.
Vessel diameter, top mount and side mount
Top-mount vessels carry the valve on the lid and are the compact choice for residential plant rooms. T500-20 is 500 mm in diameter and 890 mm tall; T600-24 is the 600 mm 24-inch unit; T750-30 measures 750 mm diameter and 1070 mm high; T900-36 and T1005-42 continue the range at 900 mm and 1005 mm for large residential and light commercial pools.
Side-mount vessels put the multiport valve on the shell, leaving the lid clear for sand loading and inspection, which is what commercial operators need. The WS series covers 1200 mm, 1400 mm, 1600 mm and 1800 mm diameters for hotel, club, water-park and public pools. Every shell is filament-wound fibreglass with a UV-resistant gelcoat, a construction that resists corrosion and pressure fatigue far better than a moulded thermoplastic tank in Egyptian conditions.
Multiport valve size and operation
Valve size follows vessel size and must match the pipework: the 20-inch and 24-inch filters ship with a 1½-inch multiport valve, and from 30 inch upwards the range uses a 2-inch valve. The six-position valve gives filter, backwash, rinse, waste, recirculate and closed. Filter is the normal running position; backwash reverses flow to lift trapped dirt out of the bed and to waste; rinse resettles the sand and sends the first cloudy water to drain instead of back to the pool; waste bypasses the bed entirely for vacuuming heavy debris or lowering the water level; recirculate moves water without passing the sand, which is useful during chemical treatment; closed isolates the vessel for service.
Sand charge and media maintenance
Each vessel takes a specific sand charge in kilogrammes, filled to the level marked for that model — enough to cover the internal laterals and leave freeboard for the bed to expand during backwash. The charge rises steeply with diameter, from a single-operator load on the 20-inch top-mount vessel to several hundred kilogrammes on the 1800 mm side-mount tanks, so confirm the exact kg figure and grade for your model with our technical team before delivery and order the media with the filter. Under-filling leaves the bed short of depth and lets water channel through; over-filling blocks bed expansion and fouls the valve.
Sizing by turnover rate
Size the filter from turnover, not from the pool's length. Divide the pool volume by the target turnover time — six to eight hours for residential pools, four hours or less for hotel and public pools with high bather load — to get the required circulation flow, then choose the vessel whose maximum flow comfortably exceeds it and whose filtration rate at that flow sits below the maximum. On that basis T500-20 suits pools up to about 60–80 m³, T750-30 up to about 132–176 m³, WS-1200 up to roughly 340–450 m³ and WS-1400 up to roughly 460–615 m³, with WS-1600 and WS-1800 for larger commercial volumes. Pressure Gauge Panel
