One Continuous Water Path at Deck Level
In a deck-level pool, water quality is decided at the rim. Surface water — carrying oils, dust and everything bathers bring in — spills continuously over the pool edge into a perimeter channel, travels along that channel to drain points, and returns to the treatment plant. Waterstar manufactures the components of this path as one coordinated family: the gratings that cover the channel, the gutter drains that empty it and the floor drains that keep the surrounding deck dry. Treating them as a single system, rather than parts bought separately, is what guarantees that the channel actually clears the water the gratings admit, at every point around the perimeter, even on the busiest day of the season.
Gratings That Cover the Channel
The visible layer of the system is the overflow grating that runs around the pool rim, skimming the surface water and its floating impurities into the channel while giving bathers a safe, comfortable walking edge. Waterstar produces its grating families — including the Nefertiti model at 23 mm height and 240 mm width and the best-selling Hatshepsut line — in UV-protected polypropylene with an anti-slip surface, in colours from White and Off White to Blue, Yellow and Navy, with the Nefertiti model compliant with BS-EN 13451. Gutter Drains That Empty the Channel
A channel is only as good as its outlets. At intervals along the channel floor sit Waterstar GD-1 gutter drains, moulded in chemical- and UV-resistant plastic and terminating in a connection for a 63 mm weld pipe, through which the collected water leaves for the balance tank and filtration line. Because the drains live permanently in chlorinated water and, on outdoor pools, in direct sun, the resistant plastic keeps its shape and finish where lesser materials embrittle and crack. The number and spacing of GD-1 units are set so the channel keeps draining freely at peak bather surge, a calculation covered on the gutter drains page and confirmed by the factory for each project.
Floor Drains for the Surrounding Deck
The final element lies beyond the pool edge: the deck itself sheds splash water, washdown water and rain toward frame-and-grate floor drains. Waterstar builds these in heavy-duty non-corrosive ABS, fixed with stainless steel screws, in 9 x 9 inch and 17 x 17 inch formats, the smaller suiting routine deck points and the larger handling surge and heavy-flow locations. Specifying channel section, grating model, gutter drain count and floor drain sizes together is what makes the whole deck-level system balance. Designers and contractors are invited to send pool perimeter, deck plan and bather load to the Waterstar factory engineers for a complete drainage specification.
