What Pool Fittings Are: the Hydraulic Skeleton of a Pool

Pool fittings are the embedded plastic components cast into the shell during construction: wall inlets that return filtered water, floor inlets that feed circulation from below, vacuum points that serve manual cleaning, and main drains that carry water back to the plant room. Together they form every hydraulic connection between the pool structure and its pipe network. Because fittings end up buried in concrete or clamped through a membrane, they must be specified correctly the first time; replacing a fitting after the shell is cast is costly and disruptive for any project.

Concrete Versions versus Liner Versions

The construction method dictates the fitting body. For reinforced concrete shells, Waterstar produces glue-in and threaded bodies that are fixed in the formwork and cast permanently into the wall or floor; typical examples are wall inlets glued inside a 2 inch or 63 mm pipe. For liner pools the design changes: the body carries a flange and a lock nut that clamp the membrane from both sides and seal the cut-out. The catalogue therefore mirrors itself, and wall inlets, floor inlets and vacuum points each exist in a dedicated liner variant with lock nut, such as the ABS wall inlet for a 50 mm or 1.5 inch weld pipe. Ordering the correct variant protects the most vulnerable sealing point of a vinyl pool.

Imperial and Metric Pipe Standards

Projects across the MENA region run on two piping cultures, and the Waterstar range covers both. Threaded bodies with a 2 inch outside thread connect through a socket to either a 1.5 inch or a 50 mm weld pipe, while glue-in bodies accept 50 mm, 63 mm or 2 inch pipe directly. The floor inlet family shows the logic clearly: one adjustable-flow body pairs with a 1.5 inch weld pipe, a second with a 50 mm weld pipe, and a third is welded inside a 63 mm pipe for hydrostorm circulation. Confirming the site pipe standard before ordering keeps the hydraulic network in a single system and avoids improvised adaptors buried in the structure where they can never be inspected again.

A balanced pool needs the right count of fittings, not just the right models: enough wall inlets and floor inlets to turn the water over evenly, a vacuum point placed where a 1.5 inch hose can reach the whole floor, and drains matched to the pump line.
