How a Concrete Spa Is Put Together

After three decades of commissioning concrete jacuzzis across Egypt and the Gulf, I can tell you that the comfort of a spa is decided in the piping, not in the finish. A properly equipped spa runs two circuits side by side: a water circuit fed by the circulation pump and an air circuit fed by a blower. Where the two meet, at the jets, is where the massage effect is born. Everything Waterstar manufactures for this category, jet mixers, nozzles, air controllers, push buttons and drains, exists for one purpose: to make those two circuits meet cleanly and to keep the whole installation serviceable for decades without ever breaking into the concrete.

Jets and the Air Line

The heart of the system is our WAI water and air jet mixer, a venturi tee welded to a 1.5 inch pipe and finished at the wall by the JN-1 jet nozzle with its ABS directional flow ball sized for a 1.5 inch pipe. The venturi draws air into the pressurised water stream so that each seat delivers a churning, aerated massage. Bathers adjust the intensity through the AC-SPA air controller, an adjustable 3/4 inch fitting with body, plastic nut and adjustable air regulator that meters how much air the line admits. Size the air manifold generously; a starved venturi produces a weak, noisy jet that no client will pay for.

Controls and Safe Suction

Electricity and wet feet do not mix, which is why the blower is switched by our APB-1 pneumatic air push button: a puff of air down a tube trips the relay, with no voltage anywhere near the bather. On the suction side, the spa floor takes our anti-vortex drains, supplied as DS-THR with a 1.5 inch thread or DS-WLD for welding to 50 mm pipe, each complete with body, gaskets, plastic nut and screws. The anti-vortex cover breaks up the entrapment-forming swirl at the sump, the swirl responsible for the worst accidents a spa can produce. Never economise on this component; it is safety equipment first and plumbing second.
