Why Off-Line Chlorination Earns Its Keep

Chlorine only protects a pool when it is present at a steady residual, and steady is exactly what hand dosing cannot deliver. An off-line automatic chlorinator solves this mechanically: it stands beside the circulation line on its own small bypass, water trickles through a chamber of slow-dissolving tablets, and a metered stream of sanitizer returns to the pool continuously. Because the unit is off-line, aggressive high-chlorine water never sits inside your filter or heater, and the chlorinator can be isolated and serviced without shutting the circulation down. For hotel pools, compounds and private villas alike, it is the cheapest reliability upgrade I know.

AC-12 or AC-24: Sizing the Capacity

Waterstar builds two capacities of the same proven design. The AC-12 holds twelve chlorine tablets and suits smaller pools and spas, where a modest chamber still covers a week or more between refills. The AC-24 doubles the magazine to twenty-four tablets for larger volumes, heavier bather loads, or operators who simply want longer intervals between site visits. Both sanitize pool and spa water and exist to cut periodic maintenance, so choose the larger unit whenever refill labour costs more than the small price difference. An empty chlorinator protects nobody, and oversizing the magazine is the cheapest insurance against ever having one.

Running It Right

Install the chlorinator on its bypass with isolation valves on both sides, start with the dial low, and creep the output up over several days while checking free chlorine against the 1 to 3 ppm target with a proper test kit. Load only slow-dissolving chlorine tablets, never mix chemical types in the chamber, and open the lid only after isolating and venting the unit.
