Deck and Surge Duty Around the Pool

Wherever water lands on hard surfaces around a pool, it must be collected before it becomes a slip hazard or finds its way into building fabric. The Waterstar frame-and-grate drains handle this duty in two formats: the FG-1 at 9 x 9 inch and the FG-2 at 17 x 17 inch. On the pool deck they gather splash-out, rinse water from cleaning and rain on outdoor installations; in plant areas and surge locations they receive the sudden heavy flows that arrive when bathers crowd in or when tanks are drained for service. Both drains are moulded in heavy-duty non-corrosive ABS and secured with stainless steel screws, so barefoot traffic, cleaning chemicals and constant wet-dry cycling leave the assembly unmarked year after year.

Choosing Between 9 x 9 and 17 x 17

Size selection follows the water each point must swallow. The FG-1 at 9 x 9 inch is the routine choice for distributed deck drainage, placed at the low points of the fall so that ordinary splash and washdown clears quickly through many modest outlets. The FG-2 at 17 x 17 inch is specified where flow concentrates: shower exits, hose-down bays, plant room floors and surge zones where a single point must accept a large volume in a short time. Mixing the two sizes across one deck plan is normal practice — small units keep the paving visually calm, large units stand guard where hydraulics demand them, and both share the same ABS material and stainless fixing standard.

Flush-Set Framing for Safe, Clean Decks

The frame is half the product. Each Waterstar unit sets its frame flush into the screed, so the grate finishes level with the surrounding surface: no raised lip to catch a bare foot, no sunken edge to hold a puddle of stagnant water. The stainless steel screws lock the grate into the frame, which keeps it silent under foot traffic and prevents the rattling and grate theft that plague loose-laid drains, while still allowing deliberate removal for cleaning the trap below. Set out on a proper fall, a grid of flush frame-and-grate drains disappears into the deck design while quietly keeping it dry. Contractors are invited to send deck layouts and drainage points to the Waterstar factory engineers for size selection and quantities.
