What an overflow grating does

On a deck-level pool the water surface sits flush with the surrounding floor and spills continuously over the edge into a channel that returns it to the balance tank and filtration plant. The overflow grating covers that channel: it carries foot traffic, lets the water fall through freely, and skims the entire perimeter at once — which is why deck-level pools keep a visibly cleaner surface than skimmer pools. The grating is therefore both a structural walking surface and part of the hydraulic circuit, and it has to do both jobs barefoot-safe, in full sun, in chlorinated splash water, for years.

Three models: Cleopatra, Hatshepsut and Nefertiti

Waterstar moulds its gratings from UV-protected polypropylene with an anti-slip surface, in three profiles named after Egypt's rulers. Cleopatra is the single-spine profile at 22 mm height and 245 mm width, 42 pieces per linear metre. Hatshepsut shares the 22 by 245 mm format and is our best-selling profile; it is also produced in a heavy-duty 38 mm height by 290 mm width version for wider channels and higher traffic. Nefertiti runs 23 mm high by 240 mm wide at 47 pieces per metre, giving a finer visual rhythm along the channel. All profiles are available in white, blue, yellow, navy and off-white, so the grating can either disappear into the deck finish or draw the pool's outline as a contrast band.

Flexibility, curves and sizing

The gratings assemble from individual interlocked pieces on a flexible spine, so the same product follows straight runs, radii and free-form pool edges without special corner units — the segments fan naturally around curves. Ordering is by the linear metre of channel: measure the full overflow perimeter, choose the width that matches the channel opening, and add the piece count per metre for your profile. For most residential deck-level pools the 22-23 mm profiles are correct; specify the 38 mm Hatshepsut where the channel spans wider or where furniture and service trolleys cross the grating.

Durability and maintenance

Polypropylene is the right material for this duty: it does not corrode, tolerates chlorinated water and Egyptian UV exposure, and single damaged segments unclip and replace individually — you never re-buy a whole run because one piece cracked. Lift sections periodically to rinse the channel beneath, and keep spare segments from the same batch so colour stays uniform.
