The compact format for residential plant rooms

A top-mount sand filter carries its multiport valve directly on the lid of the vessel, so the filter, the valve and the pipe connections stack into a single vertical assembly. The result is the smallest footprint any sand filter can offer: nothing projects sideways, and the unit stands flush in the corner of a villa plant room, a garden kiosk or an under-deck compartment. Plumbing arrives from above, which suits the short pipe runs typical of residential installations, and every position change is made on one handle at a comfortable working height. Waterstar builds these vessels in filament-wound fiber at the Badr City factory, using the same winding technology as the commercial side-mount range, scaled to the residential format.

The T-series range from twenty to forty-two inches

The T-series covers five diameters. The T500-20 at twenty inches passes a rated ten cubic metres per hour over 0.20 square metres of media area; the T600-24 at twenty-four inches passes fourteen over 0.28; the T750-30a at thirty inches passes twenty-two over 0.44; the T900-36 at thirty-six inches passes thirty-two over 0.64; and the T1005-42 at forty-two inches passes 43.5 over 0.87. Each filter ships complete with its six-way multiport valve: one and a half inch on the two smallest sizes, two inch on the thirty-six and forty-two inch vessels, and a choice of either on the thirty inch model. The installer connects the pump and the return line, charges the media, and the filter is ready for service.

Top-mount or side-mount: choosing the right architecture

Top-mount is the right call when floor area is scarce, the pump sits close by and the operator services the system only occasionally: it trades a little convenience during media changes for a much smaller plant room. When a filter runs daily under heavy load instead, as in hotels, clubs and busy shared pools, the side-mount architecture described on the Waterstar side-mount filters page keeps the lid free for frequent sand work and inspection. Whichever format fits, the vessel should be charged with the washed graded silica presented on the filtration media page. Send the pool volume, pipe sizes and plant room dimensions to the Waterstar factory engineers and they will size the exact T-series filter and valve for the installation.
