What a check valve does in a pool circuit

A check valve lets water flow in one direction only: an internal gate swings open with forward flow and seals shut the moment flow tries to reverse. In a pool circuit that one-way behaviour solves several everyday problems at once. On the suction side it keeps the pump primed, holding the water column so the pump does not have to re-prime at every start. Where the pump sits above water level it prevents the line draining back when the pump stops. On equipment branches it protects components: a check valve after the pump stops backflow through a stopped circuit, and one before a chemical feeder keeps concentrated chlorinated water from migrating backwards into the heater or pump where it corrodes metal parts.

The Waterstar range: 1.5 and 2 inch, 50 and 63 mm

Waterstar moulds check valves in the four sizes that cover pool pipework worldwide: CV-1.5 and CV-2 with 1.5 and 2 inch inlet and outlet for imperial-standard installations, and CV-50 and CV-63 for 50 and 63 mm metric solvent-weld pipe. Match the valve to the pipe standard already in the trench — imperial and metric dimensions are close but not interchangeable, and a forced joint is a future leak. The 1.5 inch and 50 mm sizes suit typical residential circulation lines; 2 inch and 63 mm belong on high-flow circuits, long suction runs and commercial installations.

Transparent body, two-part construction

Every Waterstar check valve is built as two parts — an upper and a lower body glued into one sealed unit — with a transparent housing. The transparency is a genuine service feature, not styling: the operator sees the liquid moving, sees the gate position, and confirms at a glance that the gate is sealing rather than jammed by debris — diagnosis that normally requires cutting a valve out of the line. The body material tolerates chlorinated water and pool chemicals, and the valve installs in any orientation the flow arrow allows, glued directly into the line like an ordinary fitting.

Multiport valves: the filter's control centre

The other valve every pool owns is the multiport valve on the sand filter — the six-position control that switches the filter between filter, backwash, rinse, waste, recirculate and closed.
